I don't “do coffee” any more

We have all been there, on either side of the conversation. It can go many ways:

“Hey, lets do coffee soon and have a catchup”

“Hey, can we have a coffee so I can pick your brain on something”

Right through to the simple: “Coffee?”

Before I became a coach, coffee was just another event in my day. It was a handy place to hide from doing real work. It was what I did when I didn’t have a plan and focus.

Since becoming a coach however, thats all changed. I have realised the power that every interaction holds. It doesn’t matter if it’s coffee with my mum, where she wants to fill me in on the latest gossip in her neighbourhood, or coffee with a colleague to discuss a new strategy, the space we hold in that moment is the thing.

That space, that moment in time, is the same whether it’s my mum or someone I am coaching on their way to making change. We both bring ourselves, and a life can change in an instant.

Coffee isn’t just coffee any more. Its an opportunity to connect, to see the other person in that moment in time and slow down enough to see what truly makes them come alive.
