Not a life partner, just an Accountability Partner.

altMBA Project 1 reminded me of the importance of showing my work. I had done goal setting before and when it worked, it was awesome, but when it didn't it was corroding. The common reason for my failed goal setting exercises in the past has always been the lack of people to bounce the goals off and to hold me accountable. I felt Project 1 was a perfect solution to both those problems. Investing the time in the goals and then having people pick apart my thinking was invaluable and afterwards gave me a sense of "Yeah, its much clearer now"…a great start to anything.

Richard Feynman once said “The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool.” AltMBA gives me honest accountability partners to call me on my self-fooling or laziness, or fear.

This to me, Feynman's quote is end of the "Why do I need an Accountability Partner?" argument. Yes, I capitalised them for importance. I think we all know that we can so easily lie to ourselves, or just simply talk ourselves out of our most important work. There are, of course, lots of reasons. Our Lizard Brain is just one!

An accountability partner, if they are good, means your excuses go out the window. They will call you on your Resistance every time.
