Thoughts on Seth Godin's "V is for Vulnerable"

The more I write these reviews and takeaways of Seths work, the more I realise that if you are dropped into his canon at the wrongplace, it might scare you off :). V is for Vulnerable  might be one of those places. If you are thinking “Oh, Seth has made a kids book” you will be mistaken, but, if you are willing to give it a shot and take it page by page, once again, Seth will make your mind sweat (in a good way).

V for Vulnerable was created by Seth and Hugh McLeod, the acclaimed cartoonist. It steps through 26 ideas around things like emotional labour, the power of feedback and tension.

The illustrations are simple, but help cement the messages or give a new perspective on how they can be approached.

Seth has often told us that our work is a form of art, and we should treat it that way, and this book is a manifestation of that idea. As he says in the entry for ‘E’, that really stood out for to me… “Effort isn’t the point, impact is. If you solve the problem in three seconds but have the guts to share it with me, it’s still art. And if you move ten thousand pounds of granite but the result doesn’t connect with me, I’m sorry for your calluses, but you haven’t made art, at least not art for me.”

This is a great and easy read, but don’t miss out on the profound knowledge lying underneath. Read it slowly, read it to someone else (as Seth suggests) and most of all, act on it.
