A new reading focus
I need a less scattered approach to reading.
I love to read. Love it. It lights up my life, and fills my days with insights, connections and wisdom. I have a stack (stacks?) of books by my bed, that I’ll get around to someday. Im sure of it. Never mind the Kindle full of books, or the Amazon wishlist(s)…
Wait a second. Thats a lot. These aren’t articles, or tweets. These are entire books!
I’m like a lot of others out there. I have a hunger to read, to learn, yet I tend to scattergun my approach. I read whatever looks good. And thats fine, but in any given month I jump around and I’m finding that less of the good stuff is sticking.
So to remedy this I am planning an experiment in 2018. I am only going to focus on one author, and read as much of his published work as possible. Then move onto the next.
Why? I think the good stuff sticks, and writers worth their salt tend to hone in on a few strong themes/worldviews/approaches and go deep. I’m hoping that by picking an author, I will be slowing down, and paying attention to what I read and retaining more from what I read.
So…who’s first? Seth Godin.
I’ve wanted to read all of Seth’s 18 (!) published books for years now and being an altMBA Alum and Coach I figure this is the perfect time in my life to jump in. Seth is way up there at the top of the list for me when it comes to finding mentors in life. His hard work, his books, his consistent shipping, his general posture and way of being in the world is an inspiration to so many, to me.
So, I’ll be going chronologically, starting with Permission Marketing.
Wish me luck.
